David Eisner
Professor of Cardiac Physiology
University of Manchester, UK

David Eisner was an undergraduate in Cambridge, before doing doctoral work in Oxford under the supervision of Denis Noble.  He subsequently worked at University College London and the University of Liverpool before moving to Manchester in 1999.  He is a Past President of the European Section of the ISHR.

His research has focussed on the mechanisms controlling intracellular calcium concentration in the cardiac myocyte.  He also has interests in scientific reproducibility and statistics.  Together with Jakub Tomek he has recently written a book, “Basic Statistics for Life Scientists: A Concise Handbook of Essential Techniques”.

His currently Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of General Physiology and has had similar roles at The Journal of Physiology and the ISHR’s The Journal of Molecular and Cellular Physiology.

Gregory Lim
Chief Editor, Nature Reviews Cardiology
SpringerNature, UK

Dr Gregory Lim is the Chief Editor of Nature Reviews Cardiology. He took a first class BA degree in physiological sciences from Exeter College at the University of Oxford, UK. He then moved to Merton College, Oxford, to read for a DPhil in cardiovascular medicine, focusing on the role of nitric oxide in modulating cardiac contractility. He was supervised by Professor Barbara Casadei and Professor Hugh Watkins, and his research was funded by a 4-year studentship from the British Heart Foundation. Dr Lim joined Nature Reviews Cardiology as an Associate Editor in 2011. Since then, he has been promoted to Senior Editor and, from August 2015, Chief Editor on the journal.

Elisa Martini
Senior Editor
Nature Cardiovascular Research, Italy

Elisa received her PhD from the Open University and Humanitas Research Hospital in Milan, Italy, under the supervision of Dr Marinos Kallikourdis and in collaboration with Prof Gianluigi Condorelli, investigating the adaptive immune response in pathological cardiac hypertrophy, heart failure, and atherosclerosis. As a postdoctoral fellow, Elisa continued her work with Dr. Kallikourdis investigating the inflammatory response and T cell activation in heart failure via single-cell sequencing and then moved to Prof. Chiara Bonini’s laboratory to develop a Treg Adoptive Cell Therapy for autoimmune disease. Elisa joined the team in February 2023 and is based in the Milan office.

Davor Pavlovic
Associate Professor
University of Birmingham, UK

Davor Pavlovic is an Associate Professor in Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Birmingham. He completed his PhD at the University of Oxford under the supervision of Professor Raymond Dwek and Professor Nicole Zitzmann. He subsequently worked at King’s College London before moving to University of Birmingham in 2015.

His research focuses on the mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmias and cardiomyopathy, with particular interests in cardiac electrophysiology, atrial fibrillation, cardiorenal disease, metabolic stress, and preclinical models of cardiac remodelling. His group uses approaches including optical mapping, patch clamp electrophysiology, in vivo disease models, and translational collaborations to understand how cellular and molecular changes drive arrhythmia susceptibility.

Davor is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology Plus. He is also a Council member of the European Section of the International Society for Heart Research (ISHR-ES) and is the current President-Elect of ISHR-ES.

Dario Ummarino
Senior Editor
SpringerNature, UK

Dr Dario Ummarino is a Senior Editor at Communications Biology, a community‑focused journal within the Nature Portfolio. He holds BSc and MSc degrees in Molecular Biotechnology from the University of Naples, Italy, and earned his PhD in Cardiovascular Biology at the BHF Centre of Excellence at King’s College London, UK. During his doctoral research, he investigated the mesenchymal transdifferentiation of human endothelial cells and their contribution to cardiac fibrosis.

Dario has held editorial roles across several journals, including Nature Reviews titles and PLOS journals, before joining Communications Biology in August 2023. In his current role, he primarily oversees cardiovascular research content.
