Richard Riley is a Professor of Biostatistics at the University of Birmingham, UK, having previously held posts at the universities of Keele, Liverpool and Leicester. He is currently the Chief Statistics Editor for the BMJ and BMJ Medicine, and a co-convenor of the Cochrane Prognosis Methods Group. He specialises in the development and application of methods for meta-analysis, risk prediction and prognosis research, and has published over 200 research articles. A particular focus is sample size calculations for prediction model research and statistical methods for individual participant data (IPD) meta-analysis. Richard is lead Editor of the books ‘Prognosis Research in Healthcare: Concepts, Methods and Impact’, published by Oxford University Press in 2019, and “IPD Meta-Analysis: A Handbook for Healthcare Research”, published by Wiley in 2021. He leads various training courses in risk prediction, prognosis research and IPD meta-analysis at Birmingham and Keele, and hosts the websites www.prognosisresearch.com and www.ipdma.co.uk
