JOINT TISSUE AND CELL ENGINEERING SOCIETY AND ENGINEERING AND PHYSICAL SCIENCES RESEARCH COUNCIL CENTRES FOR DOCTORAL TRAINING CONFERENCE 2022

MONDAY 13TH - WEDNEsDAY 15TH JUNE 2022

IMAGING BIO PRO WORKSHOP

At our annual TCES/Joint CDT being held in University of Birmingham on the 14th June, we are excited to be holding an ImagingBioPro workshop on â€˜Imaging Developments in Tissue Engineering’ as part of our conference. ImagingBioPro is a Technology Touching Life Network co-funded by BBSRC, EPSRC and MRC. It seeks to develop new imaging methods using large facilities to capture the dynamic biochemical and biophysical processes in biological samples. The network connects life and physical scientists, medics and industrialists through networking and training events. It also supports early career researchers through interdisciplinary exchanges, proof-of-concept feasibility studies, online educational materials and workshops.

In our workshop, we will explore ways that imaging can be used in Tissue engineering and Regenerative Medicine research to advance our field. These advances can include new instrument development, new algorithms as well as accessing high resolution imaging to interrogate our 3D tissue engineering models.

Please do join us for the conference and register for the workshop via the online shop.

It is a great honour to welcome you all to the Tissue and Cell Engineering Society (TCES) and Centres for Doctoral Training (CDT) conference website and to introduce the programme for the meeting.

We are delighted that Birmingham can host this face to face meeting of the TCES community. The ethos of providing an interactive networking event to our tissue and cell engineering community of researchers is a vital part of the TCES. We are pleased to be able to showcase recent advances across this field despite the major challenges we all have had to face this past year.

This year we are combining with our our Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and Centres for Doctoral Training (CDT) community and holding a joint event over 3 days giving us an opportunity to catch up on the research activities across 6 CDTs linked to our community. The event will have in person presentations from International and UK keynote speakers in the field with themes crossing the multiple areas involved in Cell and Tissue Engineering such as biomaterials, biomechanics, imaging, mathematical and 3D tissue models.

Authors will present their work in multiple formats; oral, flash talk and poster presentation. Furthermore, we will have a poster section with drinks and networking opportunities that encourages discussion. Additionally, we have a number of sponsor talks and conference booths which are important links to our industry community.

The organising committees are pleased to be able to showcase our campus and city. Birmingham will be hosting the Commonwealth Games to be held in the late summer 2022. The Conference Dinner for TCES will be held in the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, a delightful venue for mixing either inside, outside in the gardens or within the greenhouses surrounding the dinner hall. There are four glasshouses which range from the Tropical House through to the Subtropical, Mediterranean and Arid Houses. Overall, there is 15 acres of landscaped greenery which should be lovely in June. The dinner will be held adjoining the greenhouses and we encourage all to attend if possible. On the Monday evening , we will hold a Welcome Barbecue at Edgbaston Park Hotel.

The three days will bring all of us up to date on developments in our CDTs and the TCES community. We have lined up a stimulating mixture of medias to inform and encourage lively debate with all of us. We encourage our Early Stage Investigators to apply for the opportunity to present in the Robert Brown Award session.

On behalf of all the organising committees, it is my pleasure to encourage you to come to Birmingham in June to experience all that we have to offer. We all look forward to seeing you in person.
